A nutrient-dense lick mat recipe made with sardines and spinach, offering omega-3s, iron, and protein in a tasty format.

Ingredients

• 1 small sardine in water (drained, no salt)
• 20g steamed spinach, chopped
• 1 tbsp plain natural yoghurt

Instructions

1. Wilt the spinach: Place spinach leaves in a heatproof bowl and pour over freshly boiled water. Leave for 30–60 seconds until the leaves soften and shrink. Drain immediately and run under cold water to stop further cooking. Squeeze out any excess water.
2. Chop the wilted spinach finely.
3. Mash sardine with a fork, then stir in the spinach and yoghurt until you have a smooth, spreadable mixture.
4. Spread thinly over a lick mat. Freeze for longer-lasting enrichment or serve fresh.

Notes

Storage Instructions:

Store in fridge for 2 days or freeze for 1 week.
