Make tiny vegan cheese training treats for dogs using no-salt liquid nutritional yeast and dog-safe vegan cheese. Easy roll-out biscuit recipe for reward-based training.

Ingredients

• 190g oat flour, plus extra for rolling
• 30g dog-safe vegan cheese, finely grated
• 2 tbsp Meridian liquid nutritional yeast, no salt
• 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
• 4 tbsp warm water
• 1 tbsp unsweetened apple purée or mashed sweet potato
• 1–3 tbsp extra water, only if needed

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 160°C fan / 180°C conventional.
2. Mix the ground flaxseed and nutritional yeast with 4 tbsp warm water and leave for 5–10 minutes until slightly gel-like.
3. In a bowl, combine the oat flour, wholemeal or rice flour, and grated vegan cheese.
4. Add the Meridian liquid nutritional yeast and flax mixture, and apple purée or mashed sweet potato.
5. Mix into a firm dough. Add a little extra water, 1 tbsp at a time, only if the dough is too dry. You want it rollable, not sticky.
6. Lightly flour your work surface and roll the dough out to around 3–5mm thick.
7. Use a pizza cutter to slice the dough into long strips, then cut across the strips to make tiny training treat squares.
8. Place the squares on a lined baking tray.
9. Bake for 18–25 minutes, depending on size. For softer treats, bake closer to 18 minutes. For crunchier treats, bake for 25 minutes, then leave in the cooling oven for another 20–30 minutes.
10. Cool fully before storing.
