A comforting slow-cooked bowl of lean beef mince, heart and liver with soft white rice, carrots and green beans. Gently cooked until tender for an easy-to-portion homemade meal base.
Slow cooker method
Prepare: Finely dice the heart and liver, finely chop the carrots, and trim and chop the green beans. Rinse the rice and drain.
Brown the mince: Cook in a non-stick frying pan without oil or seasoning, breaking up the clumps.
Combine: Transfer the mince and its juices into the slow cooker. Add the heart, liver, vegetables, 150 g dry rice and 450 ml water. Stir well so the rice sits beneath the liquid.
Cook: Cover and cook on high for approximately 3–4 hours, checking from 2½ hours. Or low for 7-8 hours. The rice and vegetables should be completely soft, and the meat should reach 75°C for at least 30 seconds.
Adjust the water: If the rice is firm and the mixture looks dry, stir in 50 ml hot water at a time and continue cooking. You may need up to 150 ml extra.
Finish: Stir thoroughly and retain the cooking liquid. Once cooled below 30 degrees Celsius, add the supplements/oils and mix through
Weigh and portion: Weigh the finished batch to calculate calories per 100 g.
Cooling and reheating: Because this recipe contains rice, divide it into small, shallow containers immediately after cooking and cool quickly—ideally within one hour. Do not leave it cooling in the slow cooker. Refrigerate and use within 24 hours, or freeze promptly.
Will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days or portion up and freeze for up to 3/4 months
