Soft baked treats made with apple purée, oats and a little Ceylon cinnamon—an easy autumn bake for dogs.
Method
Preheat the oven to 170°C fan / 190°C conventional and line a baking tray.
Mix the apple sauce and egg together. Stir in the oat flour and cinnamon.
The mixture should be thick and scoopable; add a little water only if it is too stiff.
Spoon into approximately 30 small mounds, flattening each to about 1 cm thick.
Bake for 18–22 minutes, until set throughout and lightly golden underneath. They should remain soft rather than crisp.
Cool completely before feeding or storing.
Which cinnamon?
Use a product labelled Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), which contains much less coumarin than cassia. Use only the small amount listed, mixed into the batter; avoid cinnamon essential oil and mixed spice blends.
Storage: These are moist treats. Refrigerate in an airtight container and use within 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Defrost portions in the fridge.
