Dog-safe Valentine treat recipe using carob powder and banana. Soft baked muffins with no chocolate or added sugar. A healthy homemade dog treat idea.

Ingredients

• 1 ripe banana, mashed
• 1 medium egg
• 2 tbsp plain natural yoghurt (or kefir)
• 1 tbsp cold-pressed rapeseed oil or coconut oil
• 1 tsp carob powder
• 80 g oat flour (or blended oats)
• ½ tsp baking powder
• Optional:
• 1 tbsp grated carrot or apple
• A few mashed strawberries

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 170°C (fan)
2. Mash the banana until smooth
3. Whisk in the egg, yoghurt and oil
4. Stir in carob powder
5. Fold in oat flour and baking powder
6. Spoon into silicone heart moulds or mini muffin tray
7. Bake for 15–18 minutes until set and lightly golden
8. Cool fully before serving (important!)

• Protein base (choose one of the below):
• 200 g cooked chicken breast or
• 200 g lean turkey mince or
• 1 × 185 g tin sardines in spring water (drained)
• 1 large egg
• 60 g oat flour (or ground porridge oats)
• 1 tsp dried parsley (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 170°C (fan).
2. Blend all ingredients into a thick, spoonable paste.
3. Line a shallow baking tray and spread mixture thinly (about 1 cm thick).
4. Bake for 20–25 minutes until set but still soft.
5. Cool completely, then slice into tiny cubes (pea-size for training).
